Joseph Stanley “Joe” McCarty, 68, lost his courageous battle with esophageal cancer on August 8th 2015 at home in Bonita Springs, Florida surrounded by his loving family and friends. When the cancer was discovered, he said he had had a great life with no regrets. Just wished it could last a little longer.
After college Joe McCarty pursued his love of sailing and the sea, as a delivery captain, boat owner and marina manager. Joe was a knowledgeable rigger, mechanic, electrician, boat operator and jack of all trades, and was general manager of Robinhood Marine Center for 20 years. He served on the board and as president of the Maine Marine Trades Association and was a proponent for advancing the industry. Joe continued to work seasonally after his retirement in 2005, enjoying the friends he had worked with for so many years. Joe loved a good conversation, was genuinely interested in others and their thoughts, and shared his passion, sense of humor, and kindness with everyone that knew him.
